i want to start a craft supplies store, what should i sell? and if possible, what brand name?
i know "vennas glamour" bennat" and "super saver" yarns are on my list "takumi" and those metal knitting needles, those metal crochet needles. "primacolor"pencils. wax, melt and pour soap bases, ect...i am still doing research...

In today's market, opening a store is very competitive, particularly a craft store because there are some long standing stores who have chains all over the country so they get huge quantity discounts from their wholesalers to supply inventory to their stores. So, to compete with them, you have to have a unique inventory stock that cannot be found in the competitors stores. So, go for higher end quality to specialty items, if you agree with me.
Perhaps specialize in a line of fabric dyes for those who hand paint or dye their own fabrics along with all the accessories that go along with dying fabrics. Perhaps carry nice beads and findings that are unique -- maybe from an artist or a company like Blue Moon. Blue Moon beads are truly beautiful. Carry yarns from exotic animals, rather than the run of the mill synthetics. Think about calligraphy supplies. Water color paints and accessories.
You want a store with displays that make people WANT to learn a craft and a place where there is one stop shopping to begin and complete a project. Offer classes given by artisans who can teach your customers how to master a craft so you have a lifelong client who returns time and time again to purchase supplies. Go to craft expos to find your suppliers and get good wholesale prices to stock your store with quality merchandise.
A new store opening in today's market has got to stand out to be successful. Make it the best it can be. And, perhaps add internet access to boost sales.
