Wacom Bamboo Fun? Am a beginner looking to be a graphic designer...?
I want to be a graphic designer when I'm older and I've been recently thinking about getting a tablet. I'm pretty set on the Bamboo Fun tablet. I'm already pretty experienced in other art mediums and want to do more digital art now. I'm not looking into anything professional yet and it's pretty cheap.
Plus it comes with all of those programs, Corel, Adobe, etc. Since I'm a beginner and 15 years old, do you think this tablet would be good to start with?
Also which size, medium or small? I know the medium is more expensive, but my computer screen is not too too big so I don't think I'd be really concerned with the amount of space I'd have...? Any thoughts? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
yes, i'd recommend getting a bamboo fun. i have never used one before but i had a graphire which was the beginner's model before the bamboo models were released. I found the graphire to be a bit small especially when it came to hand writing so i'd recommend getting the bigger one if you are willing to spend the money on it but it guess it would depend on what you were going to use it for. the smaller size is sufficient when it comes to navigating the screen and making selections or doing anything that requires being super zoomed in, but when in comes to doing anything freehand like writing or drawing from scratch i prefer a bigger tablet.
it is easier to use programs like photoshop and painter with a mouse. i have seen some amazing work done with just a mouse but a mouse vs a tablet is like a pair of scissors vs an exacto knife - both can be used to do the same job, but each one is better suited for different tasks. the guy who said you don't need a tablet might think so depending on what type of graphic design he does. I focus on digital painting and therefore a tablet comes in quite handy but for the average graphic designer who doesn't nothing but design vector based logos and create stationary and business cards then maybe it isn't necessary.
something you need to keep in mind as someone who wants to be a graphic designer is that although getting a job as a graphic designer is a realistic goal for artists who want to make a living in the industry, most graphic design jobs don't require very much artistic talent as much as they require a bit of skill and understanding of design concepts. most graphic designers just design logos and restaurant menus and product packaging. if you're more interested in an artistic career you should look into becoming a concept artist or illustrator which will allow you to put your creativity to better use. if that doesn't work out then at least you'll still have the qualifications to be a graphic designer as a fallback career and a really good portfolio to land you the job. sorry for the rant but i just thought you should know that the term graphic designer can be really misleading, making young hopefuls think they'll be designing CD and DVD covers and movie posters when in reality most graphic design jobs out there will be designing packaging for tampon boxes and chinese takeout fliers
