Lost in Translation??
Several years ago my wife was knitting what Tiger Woods is to golf. She designed exotic patterns with ease. It was an occasion when we had lunch in a real Chinese restaurant (only one person spoke partial English, all menus have been in Chinese). When she saw the hand written menu she was so impressed with the calligraphy she returned to the menu in her purse. A few months Later I saw the result, a white sweater with beautiful Chinese symbols hand-stitched on the front. She received compliments galore until that a cocktail when we met a distinguished Chinese physician who asked my wife where she got the symbols. He then asked if she knew what they meant. "I'm afraid to ask," she said, "but tell me anyway." Even she had to laugh when he said that they read, "flat low price - good. but" I oriental symbols on my shirt drive ...... I tell everyone, it means "Beef with broccoli "
It could have been worse. I see many young people with them and I guess they are much worse.
