What is the type/brands of knitting needles that are solid metal? NOT the light hollow ones..?
My mother used to have Double Pointed Knitting needles that were solid metal of some sort. She had many colors and lengths. I would like to find out what this certain type of knitting needle is called. I do no like the light hollow needles, nor plastic or bamboo etc.

I don't think they have a specific name. Just some brands are better quality than others. Skacel has some solid steel DPNs in small sizes.
Addi-Turbos are nickle-plated solid brass but I've only gotten circulars.
What you need is to go to a knitting specialty shop. You won't find the good quality needles at a craft store. So find a store that sells only yarn and knitting/crochet supplies.
Give me a minute and I'll look up some online stores with the good stuff.

Okay, Addis do come in DPNs up to size 10. I remember them now. They have a special coating on them. I've used their crochet hooks made in the same material--very nice.
A nice thing about Addis is that if you manage to break one, you can return it to the place of purchase for a replacement. Just remember to keep your original packaging.
