Crochet Lace Patterns?

I'm trying to find a lace pattern to crochet. I need something easy, but I haven't even found something i like. I was some 'loose' edging that is still pretty.I was wondering if there is some kind of golden rule to crocheting lace. I am primarily a knitter, and in knitting i know you can make impromptu lace patterns by adding equal y/o and k2t through out the row. Is there something similar in crochet so I can just come up with my own thing?

Knitting! What does "work three rows EVEN" mean?

I'm knitting a baby cardigan, my first one, and some of the instructions have me confused.

I'm working in St st and the pattern says to "work 3 rows even in St st".

Does that mean I should work three rows, (ie. knit, purl, knit) thereby ending on a right side (RS)

OR

does that mean I should work SIX rows (ie. three sets = [knit, purl] [knit, purl] [knit, purl]) and end on a wrong side (WS)?

And the next time I come across the term, should I take it to mean that "even" means a "set" of instructions to complete a repeating pattern, say for example I was doing a lace pattern? Would this apply to crochet instructions too?

Would appreciate the help, ASAP, as I'm right in the middle of a project! Thanks!

Yes, you continue to work in the pattern as it has been established. You will see this instruction in many patterns. If you are working in stockinette, you will continue to work in stockinette, IOW, if your next row is knit, knit it, then purl a row and knit a row. If you are knitting another combination in a different project you will go back to the first pattern row and work it to the last pattern row as far as the instructions tell you to knit. This applies to most patterns, including simple lace patterns (complex lace sometimes has full repeats of a single pattern especially in a stole, but not always), cable patterns, and, yes, crochet patterns.

Good luck with your baby cardigan, baby sweaters are a very good place for a novice knitter to learn their construction skills for larger sweaters, just as lace face cloths and dish cloths are good for beginning to learn lace work. Afghan squares of different stitch combinations and color changes are good learning tools as well to expand your abilities and repetoire.

Yarn in [1] Super Fine and [2] Fine recommendations?

I bought a couple of nice crocheting and knitting magazines, and quite a few patterns are calling for yarn weights in both [1] and [2]. Any recommendations for yarn in these weights that I can get at either Walmart, AC Moore, Michaels or Joann Fabrics? I would prefer not to order online for these (want to see them in a store)... but if I absolutely have to, I will. Also, if there is some other trick (e.g. using 2 or 3 strands of a particular size of crochet thread) please let me know.

First of all to save you gas check the Wal-mart store in your area on the phone and see if the are still carrying yarn. Secondly don't go to Joann's as I and a friend of mine went to the store and all that they had was a counter about 25 foot long so there was not much for you to look at and I could not find what I wanted but was shown on line. Michael's has quite a few counters holding yarn so that may help you and Sorry I have no knowledge of A C Moore. As far as your [1] and [2] did you look at the recommendation for the yarn and the name of the manufacturer? You may also find the information in the back of the book where I have been able to locate the manufacturers. You can go on line to AC Moore and Joann and see if they have what you are looking for. With Joann if you are not satisfied with the item you can return it and if you talk to them on line they will send you a return label so you wont have to pay to return the item. I don't know if AC Moore does this but you can check. Hope this helps.

Studio Knitting Machine SK 301?

I just got an old Studio SK 301 knitting machine and ribber. I was trying to clean the carriage, so I took it apart - now I cannot get the stitch dial to sit down far enough to screw in the screw that attaches it. I have taken it apart several times trying to figure out why it isn't sitting properly, but can't see why. Any suggestions? Please help! Thanks!

Cow knitting pattern?
