I want to make my boyfriend a pumpkin amigurumi before he gets home from Korea. I found a pattern online, but I am VERY new to crocheting... I have NO idea what they are talking about..If I post the link, maybe someone can put it into lame terms for me? PLEASE & THANK YOU.. It would be much appreciated!!

Some crocheters have a hard time with written patterns. This particular pattern has few stitches and a good list of abbreviations, and it doesn't get much better than this. You may need to get the person who taught you to crochet to rephrase everything in the terms y'all used for the learning process. Or use one of the online sites with how-to instructions, such as the Lion Brand site at http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&learnToCrochet=1 to review the stitches.
Meanwhile:
Note: The main part of the pumpkin is worked in rows. All stitches are worked in back loops only. [This statement is to let you know that you will work back and forth in rows, and you will put your hook through only the *back loop* of the stitch below. That gives a ridged look to the fabric.]
Ch 16. [Make a chain with 16 loops, not counting the loop on the hook.]
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 9 ch, sc in last 3 ch. (15 st) [Skip the first chain loop. In the back of the second chain loop, insert your hook and pull up a loop; then yarn over the hook and pull through both loops. That's one single crochet. Make a single crochet in the back of the next chain loop and then again in the following chain loop. In the back of the next chain loop, and in the 8 loops following, make a row of half double crochet stitches: Twist the tip of the hook into the free yarn so that you have yarn lying over the hook between the loop of yarn from the last stitch and the tip of your needle. Insert the needle tip into the back of the next chain loop. Yarn over the hook and raw up a loop. Yarn over the hook and draw through all three loops on the hook. Finish the row with three single crochet stitches. Count your stitches to make sure you have 15.]
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in next 5 st, hdc in next 5 st, sc in next 5 st. (15 st) [Chain 1 stitch. Turn the work around to go back over the stitches you just made. Do a single crochet in each of the first five stitches. Do a half-double crochet in each of the next five stitches. Do a single crochet in each of the last five stitches. Count your stitches to make sure you have 15.]
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in next 3 st, hdc in next 9 st, sc in next 3 st. (15 st) [Chain 1 stitch and turn your work around. Single crochet in each of the first 3 stitches. Half double crochet in each of the next 9 stitches. Single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches. Count your stitches to make sure you have 15.]
Rows 4-25: repeat Rows 2 and 3 eleven times more. (15 st) [Rows 2 and 3 make up the pattern. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 eleven more times, for a total of 12 segments of the pumpkin. Count your stitches to make sure you have 15 at the end of each row.]
Row 26: Repeat Row 2 once more (15 st). [Self-explanatory.]

Mr Pumpkinhead and Crackerjack, a Crochet Pattern By Sue Pendleton $10.50 This is an original crochet pattern for a raggedy-type pumpkin-headed character doll in the primitive style. Mr. Pumpkinhead is dressed in patched knickers with suspenders, and funky lace-up boots with striped socks. His friend, Crackerjack the Crow, sits on his shoulder as they watch the world go by together. Aren't they a riot? The pattern makes a 13 inch doll when you use DK weight yarn with a... |
