Knitting in the round - really short diameter! HELPPPPP?
Hi,
I'm trying out this Amigurumi Knitting pattern which requires me to knit in the round with a CO of only 4 stitches. I have tried knitting in the round with 10, 12 and more stitches and always get perfect results using 2 circular needles. But however much I concentrate and try to do the same for 4 stitches, it boggles the hell out of me. Please please help.
Also, is knitting in the round the same as Join in a Round and Knit?

I've been practising over the weekend, and though its a little fuzzy to me still (i'm self taught at this!) i think i can make it work with some patience. Do keep those ideas pouring in
Yes, it's the same thing.
I can see where trying to use two circular needles on 4 stitches would be a challenge, because the two circs are going to naturally try to move apart and get in each other's way.
Most people would prefer working 4 stitches on double-point needles until there are enough stitches added to make working on circs more feasible.
I personally prefer working with one very long circular needle with a flexible cord, pulling the extra cord out of the way to knit 2 stitches on the "front" needle and 2 stitches on the "back" needle. That way I don't have to change needles after increasing several stitches. The long cable between needles permits the same orientation between the working needle and the holding needle that I'd have with DPNs.
Using the long circ is called "magic loop" knitting. The demo illustrates working with 8 stitches, and the same technique will work with 4 stitches.
