Is crocheting easier than knitting?
I'm totally into the whole Japanese Amigurumi stuff and I know they have some knit patterns, but the majority of the cool stuff is in crochet and I would totally like to do some of it. I have also heard that crocheting is totally easier than knitting? Is that true? And if so, what's a good beginner Amigurumi pattern?
Not necessarily easier. I learned to crochet first then knit. I do believe knowing how to crochet helped me pick up knitting faster. Amigurumi is done mainly in crochet because:
Crochet more easily allows for circular and oblong shapes
Also a single crochet material is tighter than knitting and has less give than a similar knitted pattern.

Crochet is basically one stitch and the varition is how many times you wrap the yarn around the hook before inserting into the base chain. (exception half-double stitch)
Knitting has 2 stitches the knit and the purl which are similar but different motions. It can be learned easily, I learned how to knit from someone at a knitting night at a yarn store. She basically showed me for about 10 mins and I caught on. However I don't think it would be so easy if I didn't know how to crochet first.
I will definetively say this, crocheting is faster. There are no double or triple knits or purls one knit is essentially akin to a single crochet. So because of the double and triple crochet it is usually faster.
There are some tutorials listed on the aforementioned website. Also check out youtube for video crochet instruction. My mom taught me to crochet so I didn't need a video, however videos were so helpful when I was trying to remeber how to cast on and when I learned the purl stitch. Hope this helps!
