How big do I need to make a baby blanket?
Ok so I am crocheting a granny square afghan for my friend's nephew. I already have about 26 inches across so far.... How much more would be a decent size?
And I would really appreciate an answer from someone who makes and/or sells blankets often; someone who knows what they're talking about. No offense to anyone, but I need some one serious to let me know what I need to do.
I am basically making one giant granny sqaure as an afghan. So.... I am working in a square measurement.
I'd get it as close to 36" across as possible with the size squares you're crocheting and AT LEAST 36" in length. Longer is better--40" or 44" would be a useful afghan for the child as he grows and will work as a crib blanket for a baby.
The blankets that are less than 34" in width are usually light weight and meant to wrap the baby during his first 6 months or so of life or cover his legs in a car seat/carrier. As much work as a granny-square afghan is, you'll want it to be used for years.
